Buffy Saint-Marie 

A unique force in the music industry, Saint-Marie made one of the world’s first electronic vocal albums (1969). Her single “Universal Soldier,” became the definitive anti-war anthem of the 20th century. In 1982 she became the only Indigenous person to win an Oscar for the single "Up Where We Belong" by Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes featured in the film An Officer & A Gentleman. Her pop standards have been sung and recorded by the likes of Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley, Donovan, Glen Campbell, Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes among others.
