Buffy Sainte Marie | Electric City Magazine

August 17, 2017

Throughout the musical career of Buffy Sainte-Marie her music has been recorded by such well known artist's as Elvis, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes and many others. Among her many awards throughout her career she holds a Golden Globe for "Up Where We Belong" from the hit movie An Officer and A Gentleman to name a few.

She recently sat down with David Tough of Electric City where he highlights her career on Sesame Street, her collaborations with younger musicians, awards and albums.

A singer and guitarist who accompanies herself, Buffy has also embraced unconventional instrumentation throughout her work, from the mouthbow on her early folk recordings, to synths on her early experimental album Illuminations and her mid-career masterpiece Coincidence and Likely Stories. Most distinctive of all, though, is Buffy’s voice, with its tender and uncompromising vibrato, rising above everything, where the eagles cry on a mountain high. - David Tough, Electric City Magazine
