2017 CMA Medium Market Radio Station of the Year

Deeply rooted in regional heritage WIVK 107.7 is commonly known as "weh-vik" the Frog Station. It can be heard in East Tennessee, parts of Southwestern Virginia, Western North Carolina, Southeastern Kentucky, Northern Georgia, and Northwest South Carolina.

In addition to winning the 2017 CMA Award WIVK has received numerous awards from the Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music, Associated Press, NAB Marconi and RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Awards and is the number-one rated station by Arbitron in the Knoxville Media Market.

The categories for Station of the Year are established by market size based on population as ranked by Arbitron. Candidates for Station of the Year are judged on aircheck, ratings, community involvement, and format leadership. The entries are judged by a panel of distinguished broadcast professionals, representing all market sizes and regions.

Nikki Thomas, PD for WIVK 107.7 accepted the award for Medium Market Radio Station of the Year Wednesday night at the 51st Annual CMA Awards. Thomas was previously the music director for KATM 103 "Kat Country" in Modesto/Stockton, CA where she was the music director prior to becoming the first female Program Director in the history of the station.

Her previous station, KATM won the Country Music Association Medium Market Station of the Year award in 2011, receiving the news via a phone call from CMA Entertainer of the Year Nominee Taylor Swift. The station also won the Academy of Country Music Medium Market Station of the Year award in 2012 and received their second Country Music Association "Medium Market Station of the Year" nomination in 2014.
